This is Ultima I, before Lord British implemented the virtues. So the game does allow you to steal and murder, and your only penalty is getting caught and killed by the guards. In this case I've tried to do the least amount of both as necessary, completing the game without stealing and only killing Gwino the Jester once. No guards killed. :D It is NOT possible to complete the game without killing the jester at least once since the princess gives you the time machine. If you are playing this game by yourself, I highly recommend at least a map since the game world is easy to go around in circles with. I own three copies of this game, one on the original 5.25" floppy disk from the First age of Darkness trilogy, one from the Ultima Collection CD-ROM, and one from GOG.COM This is not a speed run, though it currently totals 2 hours and 34 minutes, from one sitting and at least 3 death-and-reloads.
