The idea is to follow the instructions for button presses, ending the sequence in beat with the music. I remember liking this quite a lot back in the PS1 days, despite the music being quite far from my normal tastes. Several nutty characters battle each other on the dancefloor for possession of an alien device called "the Groovetron". Opponents range from slightly weird (a stripper/fortune teller/assassin) to really weird (aliens and dancing robots).
