Many years before Bethesda and Bioware started to include sophisticated world editors with their games, SSI released "Forgotten Realms: Unlimited Adventures" (commonly referred to as FRUA), which soon became popular among dedicated and creative CRPG gamers. FRUA is based on a late version of the venerable Gold Box engine - which by 1993 looked quite good with detailed, colorful sprites and varied tilesets - and allows players to design their own dungeons, create quests and puzzles, import new graphics and edit enemy statistics. Furthermore, many FRUA fans have created inofficial patches and hacks which makes it possible to, among other things, design new items and edit the in-game graphics. According to an estimate from the game's Wikipedia entry, more than 700 FRUA modules have been made to this day.
